Last saturday I got on the plane to Helsinki and from Helsinki to Rovaniemi which lies on the Arctic Circle (!)
I'm going to stay here for 4 months and study there at the University of Lapland.
Which is awesome by the way, they got Band rooms in the cellar and more awesome stuff I wish were available at my University in Germany.
And where else could you come across Reindeers that walk around in the yard below your balcony
But I noticed a couple of things since I came to Finland which caused some confusion on my part.
- locks are turned the other way around than in Germany
- bus plans can only be understood by Finnish people (I just don't get them XD)
- salads seem to contain loads of onions (yuck)
- Finland is a paradise for dogs and their owners
- Everyone rides a bike or goes jogging or does some other kind of sport
Overall I like it here, people are really nice and no one cares if one is more
alternatively dressed and seem to be very tolerant in general.
I can't wait til lectures are starting and hopefully get to see Aurora Borealis!
